111 Castlereagh Street

111 Castlereagh Street

A bronze elliptical sculptural form of residential apartments is designed to ‘hover’ above the Art Deco David Jones heritage building. This curvilinear architecture appears to bear no load on the grounded heritage building – yet its impact is seen though ‘ripple’ of void spaces that bring natural light into the workspaces below and in the layers of outdoor landscape.
This spatial ripple extends into the heart of 111 Castlereagh, carving a central atrium and ribbons of continuity that links the building’s many uses. The retail and commercial levels will be flooded with natural light, maximising warmth and generosity while creating an immersive sense of scale. Suspended above this atrium, the residences embrace grand living rooms alongside intimate spaces and refined detailing. The dominant elevation facing east will capture the city's most coveted views: the lush canopies of Hyde Park and beyond to Sydney Harbour.
