[The building] is distinctive, innovative and imaginative in its design; with outstanding functionality, fitness for purpose, and use of technology.
— Professor Barry Spicer, Dean, Business School

Following an international design competition fjmt with Archimedia were commissioned to design this landmark complex. The project provides world’s best practice in the provision of workplace and teaching environments. The emblematic design marries global context with indigenous Maori culture, drawing inspiration from its locale. The building has not only rapidly become an icon of the university but for the City of Auckland.

Within the complex is a wide range of facilities including workplace areas, social hubs and collaborative spaces, library, teaching and seminar spaces, computer laboratories, retail and exhibition spaces. An atrium, with its large ‘urban window’ is the main forum for social interaction and knowledge transfer.

The project has received numerous awards including a NZIA Auckland Architecture Award and was shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival Awards.
